Little Sahara State Park

Oklahoma State Park; Open Off Road Riding On About 1,600 Acres Of Dunes · Waynoka, Oklahoma

About 1,600 acres of open sand dunes beside the Cimarron River in north-western Oklahoma, left behind by the river's shifting bed and blown into hills that rise as high as 75 feet. Unlike most dune fields in the United States, the whole thing is open to riding: dune buggies, quad bikes, dirt bikes and sand rails run over it day and night, and the park exists mainly to serve them, with campgrounds, showers, a dump station and an observation point for people who would rather watch. Holiday weekends, especially spring break, Memorial Day and Labor Day, turn it into a noisy encampment of trailers and rigs. Riding costs $15 a day for each driver and each passenger, with under-tens free, and every machine must carry a ten-foot whip with a bright orange flag; helmets are required for riders under 18 unless they sit in a roll cage. The park is free to enter and needs no Oklahoma parking pass.
