One of California's oldest wine regions, planted in the 1840s and producing continuously since — Wente, founded 1883, is the oldest continuously operated family-owned winery in the country. It sits forty minutes from San Francisco on the far side of the East Bay hills, which makes it the Bay Area's local wine country and the one nobody outside the Bay Area has heard of.
