The Central Valley wine region an hour east of San Francisco that grows more Zinfandel than anywhere else in the world, much of it on ungrafted vines a century old and older. For decades it sold that fruit to Napa and Sonoma to blend; over the last twenty years its own hundred-plus wineries have started keeping it.
