Loen Skylift
Cable Car From The Fjord To About 1,011 M On Mount Hoven, Often Described As One Of The Steepest In The World, With A Mountain Restaurant And Via Ferrata · Loen, Vestland
Loen Skylift is a cable car that lifts visitors from the shore of the Nordfjord at Loen, in Stryn municipality, to about 1,011 m on the summit plateau of Mount Hoven in roughly five minutes. Opened in 2017, it is often described as one of the steepest cable cars in the world, with the cabin rising close to the cliff on a long single span. At the top, the Hoven restaurant, its terraces and short paths look straight down the Nordfjord, into the Lodalen valley toward Lovatnet and, on clear days, across the peaks around the Jostedalsbreen ice cap. People come because it is the quickest way in western Norway to stand high above a fjord without a hard hike: cruise passengers from Olden, road-trippers between Geiranger and the Sognefjord, and hikers who ride up and walk down, or climb up on the Via Ferrata Loen. The honest caveat: the ticket is expensive for a five-minute ride, low cloud can hide everything at the top, and on cruise-ship days the queues and the terrace are crowded.
