Lokken and Blokhus
North Sea Beach Towns With Rows Of White Bathing Huts, A Wide Beach Where Cars May Drive In Places, And Summer Crowds From Across Denmark And Germany · Lokken, North Denmark Region
Lokken and Blokhus are two neighbouring beach towns on the North Sea coast of Vendsyssel in north Jutland, roughly 40 minutes north-west of Aalborg, about 12 km apart along the wide sweep of Jammerbugten. Both grew from fishing hamlets into seaside resorts, and they are known for long, wide sandy beaches backed by dunes, rows of white-painted bathing huts, old wartime bunkers in the sand, and stretches where cars may drive on the firm beach in marked areas. In summer they fill with Danish, German and Norwegian families in rented summer houses, with ice-cream shops, surf and kite schools and a lively evening street life; Blokhus is also known for a large summer sand sculpture festival. Farup Sommerland, one of Denmark's biggest amusement parks, is close by and has its own row. The honest caveats: in July they are crowded and commercial, out of season many shops close and the towns go very quiet, and the North Sea here has strong currents that are dangerous for swimmers.

By car it is roughly 5 hours from Copenhagen via the Great Belt Bridge, or about 40 minutes from Aalborg.
