Longhorn Cavern State Park
Show Cave · Burnet, Texas
A cave in the Hill Country that was carved by an underground river rather than dripped into being by acidic water, which makes it one of only two publicly accessible caves of its kind in the United States and explains why the walls are smooth and wave-sculpted instead of hung with stalactites. The Civilian Conservation Corps cut the steps and built the limestone buildings above ground in the 1930s, and both are still in use.
