Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens
Zoo · Los Angeles, California
A 133-acre zoo in Griffith Park holding around 1,800 animals, and an accredited botanical garden in its own right with some 800 plant species. Its condor breeding programme was central to saving the California condor from extinction — the species was down to 22 birds in 1982, and animals bred here were among the first released back to the wild.
