Lost River Cave

A cave on the edge of Bowling Green with the only underground boat tour in Kentucky, run by a non-profit that took the site on when it was a rubbish-strewn dump and spent decades clearing it. The Lost River surfaces and vanishes several times across the valley before disappearing into the cave mouth for good, and from the 1930s the enormous entrance chamber was run as a nightclub with a dance floor over the water. Above ground there are wooded trails, a butterfly habitat and blue holes.

Open daily, generally 9 AM - 5 PM with reduced winter hours; closed on major holidays. The boat tour runs on a rolling schedule and is SUSPENDED WITHOUT NOTICE WHEN THE RIVER IS HIGH — check after heavy rain. The valley, trails and grounds are free and open whether or not the boats are running.
