Lotte World
Indoor Theme Park Opened In 1989, With The Outdoor Magic Island On Seokchon Lake; Beside The 555 M Lotte World Tower · Seoul, Seoul
The giant indoor-and-outdoor theme park in Jamsil, south-east Seoul, opened in 1989 and still one of the busiest parks in Asia. Lotte World Adventure fills a vast glass-roofed hall on several floors, with coasters, dark rides, an ice rink on the lowest level and daily parades, so it runs in rain, heat and snow. A bridge leads out to Magic Island, the outdoor half on an island in Seokchon Lake, crowned by a fairy-tale castle and ringed by thrill rides such as Atlantis and the Gyro Drop, which close in rain, strong wind or hard cold. The park is joined to a department store, a hotel and Jamsil station on subway lines 2 and 8, and across the road the 555-metre Lotte World Tower holds the Seoul Sky observatory near its top and the Lotte World Aquarium in the mall below. Korean teenagers rent school uniforms to wander it in pairs, families pack it at weekends and in school holidays, and in early April the cherry trees around Seokchon Lake bloom beside the castle, making the lakeside walk one of the prettiest free strolls in the city.

NO OPENING TIME HERE WAS CHECKED. The typical pattern: the park opens every day of the year at about 10 am and closes at roughly 9 to 10 pm, later in summer and on some weekends; ticket sales and last entry end about an hour before closing, and Magic Island often closes earlier than the indoor hall. There is no regular closing day. Seoul Sky opens from late morning to about 10 pm, and the aquarium from about 10 am to 8 pm. Traps: Magic Island rides stopped by rain, wind or cold; the Magic Pass sold out by mid-morning on a weekend; two-hour queues on holidays; rides closed for refurbishment; arriving after 4 pm on a full-day ticket.
