Magazine Street
Promenade · New Orleans, Louisiana
Six miles of independent shops, restaurants and bars running from the Warehouse District through the Garden District and Uptown to Audubon Park, and the answer to where New Orleanians actually shop. There is almost no chain frontage on it. It runs parallel to St Charles Avenue a few blocks toward the river, which means it is the working street to that avenue's grand one, and it is the best way to see the residential city without a guided tour.
Magazine Street, New Orleans, Louisiana, 70130, United States
A public street, open at all hours and free to walk. Shops generally run about 10:00 to 18:00 with individual hours, and MANY CLOSE ON SUNDAYS OR MONDAYS — this is independent frontage rather than a mall. Restaurants and bars run later, with bars applying the usual 21-and-over rules in the evening. The Magazine Street bus runs the full six miles and is wheelchair accessible.
