Magog and Lake Memphremagog

A Lively Lake Town With A Long Lakeside Promenade, Boat Cruises, A Beach, Lakeside Paths And Nearby Mont Orford And Parc National Du Mont Orford, Plus Restaurants And Art. A Summer Destination On A Large Cross Border Lake · Magog, Quebec

Magog is a lake town of roughly 27,000 people at the north end of Lake Memphremagog in the Eastern Townships, about 120 km east of Montreal on Autoroute 10 (confirm). The lake is about 40 km long and crosses the border into Vermont, and the town spreads along its northern shore beneath Mont Orford. A lakeside promenade runs from the old port past a beach, a market and the cruise docks, while Rue Principale climbs from the water with restaurants, galleries, small breweries and shops. Magog began as a mill town in the late 1700s and kept a centre of brick and stone, though today it lives mainly from visitors, skiers, cyclists and weekend cottagers from Montreal and the United States. It is also a gateway to Parc national du Mont-Orford, the Benedictine abbey on the far shore and the wine and cider farms of the hills. Allow half a day for the waterfront and main street, or a weekend with a cruise, a bike ride and a mountain day.

The waterfront promenade, the beach areas and the main street are open at any hour, while shops, galleries and cafes keep roughly 10 to 5 and later in July and August (confirm). Lake cruises run roughly late May to mid-October on a published timetable, and the public beach is staffed in summer only (confirm dates). The Mont Orford lifts run roughly December to March, and the summer gondola and trails open from about late June (confirm). Many restaurants shorten their days in April and November, so confirm before a shoulder-season trip.
