Mahamaya Lake

Lake · Mirsharai, Chattogram

An irrigation lake folded into the Mirsharai hills off the Dhaka-Chattogram highway - often described as the country's second-largest artificial lake (a customary title rather than a measured one) - whose winding green arms between forested slopes have made it Bangladesh's most popular kayaking water. A rubber-dam irrigation project by origin, a paddling destination by adoption: kayak rentals work the main ghat, engine boats run larger groups up the arms, and the far reaches go quiet in a way nothing this close to the highway should. Caves and monsoon cascades hide in the feeding streams for those who ask.

The ghat operates daylight hours daily, roughly 8-9 AM to sunset, with kayaks and boats first-come (no bookings) and a small gate ticket - all rates recalled and UNVERIFIED for 2026, higher on holidays. Winter weekday mornings give the lake at its best; monsoon brings full arms, cascades and squall-watching in equal measure.
