Mākena State Park

State Park · Makena, Hawaii

A 165-acre beachside park in Makena on the south coast of Maui, just south of Wailea, containing three separate beaches and a dormant volcanic cinder cone. Big Beach - Oneloa - is the largest undeveloped beach on the island, a broad crescent of gold sand backed by kiawe and the cinder cone of Puʻu Ōlaʻi. It is spectacular and it has a shorebreak that injures people every year, which is the first thing to understand about it.
