Mammoth Cave National Park

National Park · Mammoth Cave, Kentucky

The longest cave system known anywhere on Earth — more than four hundred miles of surveyed passage, better than twice the length of the next longest cave in the world — running under a wooded plateau in south-central Kentucky. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an International Biosphere Reserve, and the surface half of the park is a destination in its own right, with the Green and Nolin rivers and some eighty miles of trail. Almost none of the cave can be seen without a ticketed ranger-led tour, and those tours have to be reserved.
