A volcano on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada that rises to 11,053 feet and holds snow later than anywhere else in California — the season regularly runs into June and has reached July more than once. It is a long way from everywhere, which is precisely why the snow is better and the crowds are thinner than at Tahoe.
