Mancora

Peru'S Most Popular Beach Resort, With Warm Water All Year, Surf Breaks, Kitesurfing, And Whale And Turtle Watching Off Los Organos And Cabo Blanco. A Backpacker And Surf Town On The Northern Desert Coast, Near The Ecuador Border. · Mancora, Piura

Mancora is a beach town on the Pan-American Highway in Piura, about 1,150 km north of Lima, and the most popular sun and surf stop on Peru's north coast. The sea is warm, around 22 to 26 C, thanks to a warm current from the north, and the sky is sunny and dry almost all year. The main beach is a long strip of sand, with surf at the northern end and calmer water to the south, and the town behind it is a busy mix of hostels, bars, restaurants and surf schools. Nearby you can reach the left-hand break of Mancora Point, the turtles of El Nuro, whale watching from July to October and kitesurfing in the windy months. The honest picture is a party town. It is touristy, the highway runs through it with noisy traffic, and petty theft and drink spiking happen, so keep your wits and your bag close. Quieter beaches lie close by, and a few days is plenty for most people, with the calmer south end of the beach and the nearby villages offering a gentler pace than the main strip, with fewer bars and far less noise.

The beach is open all day and all year and is FREE. Surf schools, tour boats and restaurants work mostly from morning to late afternoon, while bars and hostels keep going late into the night. Boat trips depend on sea and wind. After an El Nino year some beach businesses stay closed for repairs. Confirm tour times the day before.
