Marengo Cave
Show Cave · Marengo, Indiana
A show cave in the Crawford County karst of southern Indiana, found in 1883 by two schoolchildren who climbed down a sinkhole behind their school and have been credited with the discovery ever since. It is a designated National Natural Landmark and runs two entirely different guided tours — the Crystal Palace, a single large chamber of dripstone shown with a lighting presentation, and the Dripstone Trail, a longer walk through narrow passage with dense soda-straw formations. The cave holds a steady temperature in the mid-fifties year-round.
