MASS MoCA
Art Museum · North Adams, Massachusetts
Twenty-six brick mill buildings on sixteen acres in North Adams, a town of about thirteen thousand at the far north-west corner of the state, converted in 1999 into one of the largest contemporary art museums in the world by gallery space. The scale is the argument: Building 5 is the size of a football field, which means work can be shown here that physically cannot be shown anywhere else. Its Sol LeWitt wall drawing retrospective covers three floors and is installed until 2043.
