Mavillette Beach

A Wide Sand And Dune Beach On The Acadian French Shore With A Boardwalk, A Salt Marsh Behind It, Strong Fundy Tides And Cold Water. A Quiet Beach In The Clare District, With Shorebirds And A Few Services · Mavillette, Nova Scotia

Mavillette Beach is a wide sand and dune beach on the French Shore of St. Marys Bay, in the Acadian district of Clare in Digby County, about 30 km north of Yarmouth near Cape St. Mary. At low tide the sea draws far back across a flat shining strand, and at high tide the water reaches the dune edge, so the beach changes shape through the day. A boardwalk leads from the parking area through the dunes, and a salt marsh behind the sand attracts shorebirds, herons and ducks. The water is cold and the bay has strong Fundy tides, so most visitors come to walk, watch birds, fly kites and see the Acadian coast. The parish villages along Route 1, with their tall wooden churches, bright houses and small shops, give a cultural side to the day. French is widely spoken, and local food such as rappie pie and seafood chowder is easy to find. Services at the beach are few, so bring food, water and a layer for the wind.
