Maymont

Urban Park · Richmond, Virginia

A hundred acres above the James in Richmond, laid out by James and Sallie Dooley from 1893 and left to the city when Sallie died in 1925 — with the house as they had it, which is why it is one of the most intact Gilded Age interiors in the country. The grounds, the Italian and Japanese gardens, the native wildlife exhibits and the children's farm are free, and Richmond treats the place as a back garden.

1000 Spottswood Road, Richmond, Virginia, 23220, United States

Grounds and gardens generally open daily except Mondays, roughly 10 AM - 5 PM with longer summer hours. Mansion and Nature Center have their own shorter hours and modest charges. Grounds free.
