Meow Wolf House of Eternal Return

The Original Meow Wolf Permanent Installation, Opened 2016 In A Converted Bowling Alley Bought By George R. R. Martin; Roughly 70 Rooms Built By More Than A Hundred Artists · Santa Fe, New Mexico

Meow Wolf began as a Santa Fe art collective squatting in warehouses, and in 2016 it opened this permanent installation in a bowling alley that George R. R. Martin bought and leased to them. What is inside is roughly 70 rooms built by more than a hundred artists, wrapped around a two-storey Victorian house standing intact in the middle of a warehouse. You walk into the house, open the refrigerator, and climb through it into somewhere else. There is a narrative about a family and a rupture in spacetime, told through letters, browser histories and objects left in drawers, and you can follow it closely or ignore it entirely and just crawl through a fireplace into a neon forest. Nothing is roped off and almost everything can be opened, climbed into or played. It has since been copied by its own company in Las Vegas, Denver, Grapevine and Houston, but this is the original and the one the rest were measured against.
