Merriweather Post Pavilion
Amphitheater · Columbia, Maryland
An outdoor amphitheatre in a stand of trees in Columbia, designed by Frank Gehry in 1967 as one of his earliest built works and intended to be a summer home for a symphony orchestra. It became a rock venue instead and has stayed one for more than fifty years. James Rouse built it into the middle of his planned city and named it for Marjorie Merriweather Post, who funded it. A major rebuild finished around 2019 raised the roof and reworked the whole structure without losing the woods.

⚠ SEASONAL — an outdoor amphitheatre operating roughly April to October, with essentially nothing scheduled in winter. Tickets are sold per event through the venue and national resale markets and go on sale months ahead. General parking is usually included in the ticket; prepaid close-in parking is sold separately. A clear-bag policy operates and the rules on chairs, blankets and sealed water vary by show — check in the week of the event. The surrounding Symphony Woods parkland is free and open on non-show days.
