A 1927 hall on Clark Street in Wrigleyville that has been a rock venue since 1982, and the room where a very large share of American alternative music played its first Chicago show — the Smashing Pumpkins came up here, and Nirvana, R.E.M. and countless others passed through on the way up. Smart Bar, in the basement, has been a serious dance club for just as long.
