MGM Grand Las Vegas

Casino Resort On The Las Vegas Strip, Often Described As The Largest Single Hotel In The United States By Room Count · Las Vegas, Nevada

MGM Grand is the huge emerald-green casino resort on the north-east corner of the Las Vegas Strip and Tropicana Avenue, opened in December 1993 by Kirk Kerkorian and often described as the largest single hotel in the United States by room count. It is worth a stop less for gambling than for scale and for three things that no neighbour has: the giant bronze lion at the Strip entrance, the MGM Grand Garden Arena, where title fights, UFC cards and arena concerts have been staged since the 1990s, and the Las Vegas Monorail's southern terminus, which makes it the start of the only train up the east side of the Strip. Inside are a very large casino floor, long-running Cirque du Soleil and magic residencies, a big pool complex with a lazy river and a seasonal adults-only pool club, a row of restaurants from food court to the Joel Robuchon fine-dining room, and the non-gaming Signature condo towers out back. The lion habitat that once drew families closed in 2012. Expect long indoor walks, resort fees, paid parking and smoke on the casino floor.

NO OPENING TIME HERE WAS CHECKED. The typical pattern: the casino, lobby and some bars are open 24 hours every day; the food court and cafes run from early morning to late evening; restaurants keep lunch and dinner hours and some close on certain weekdays; pools usually run from mid-morning to late afternoon and shrink or close in winter; Wet Republic is seasonal, from about spring to early autumn, on set days; shows have dark days. The traps that ruin a day are arriving on a fight night without knowing, walking 15 minutes to the monorail and missing a timed train, expecting the lion habitat, which closed in 2012, finding the pools closed in winter, and a long rideshare queue after an arena event. Confirm current times before relying on them.
