Minneapolis Sculpture Garden
Modern Monument · Minneapolis, Minnesota
Eleven acres of lawn, hedge and gravel between the Walker Art Center and Loring Park, holding around forty large sculptures and one that has become the city's emblem — Spoonbridge and Cherry, a 52-foot spoon with a cherry balanced on it, built by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen in the 1980s, with a fountain running from the cherry stem. It is free, open from early morning until midnight every day of the year, and it is the rare civic icon you can walk up to and touch at two in the morning if you want to.
725 Vineland Place, Minneapolis, Minnesota, 55403, United States
Open daily year round, generally 6:00 to midnight, and FREE — it is a public park with no ticket and no gate, and it is lit after dark. The Spoonbridge and Cherry fountain runs from roughly April to October and is switched off for winter. The Walker Art Center next door is separate, charges admission, and keeps museum hours.
