Minuteman Missile National Historic Site

Historic Site · Philip, South Dakota

The last intact Minuteman II intercontinental ballistic missile system in the United States, preserved in a disarmed state on the South Dakota prairie beside Interstate 90. For three decades a thousand of these missiles stood buried under the Great Plains, each on fifteen minutes' notice. The site is three separate places: a visitor centre, an underground launch control capsule where two officers sat alert, and a silo with a training missile still in it under glass.

24545 Cottonwood Road, Philip, South Dakota, 57567, United States

THE VISITOR CENTER IS FREE and open daily, generally 8 AM to 4 PM, closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. ⚠ DELTA-01, THE UNDERGROUND LAUNCH CONTROL CENTER, IS SEEN BY TICKETED RANGER-GUIDED TOUR ONLY, groups are limited to SIX PEOPLE, and TICKETS SELL OUT WEEKS AHEAD IN SUMMER - they are released on recreation.gov on a rolling schedule. Delta-09, the silo, is self-guided and free.
