Mission Nombre de Dios

Shrine · St. Augustine, Florida

The ground where Pedro Menendez de Aviles came ashore on 8 September 1565 and the first parish Mass in what became the United States was said — the founding moment of St. Augustine and of Catholicism in the country. A 208-foot stainless steel cross now marks the landing place, and the Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche beside it is the oldest Marian shrine in the United States.

27 Ocean Avenue, St. Augustine, Florida, 32084, United States

Grounds open daily and free. The chapel and shrine are open to visitors outside services.
