Mission San Luis

Historic Site · Tallahassee, Florida

The reconstructed western capital of Spanish Florida, where from 1656 a Franciscan mission and an Apalachee town of around fifteen hundred people shared one hilltop in Tallahassee. Its council house is rebuilt at full size — roughly a hundred and twenty feet across, the largest historic Native American building in the southeastern United States — and in 1704 the inhabitants burned the whole place themselves rather than let it be taken.

2100 West Tennessee Street, Tallahassee, Florida, 32304, United States

Open limited days, historically Wednesday through Sunday. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays — check before travelling.
