Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge

Wildlife Reserve · Swanton, Vermont

Six thousand seven hundred and twenty-nine acres of delta where the Missisquoi River spreads out into the north-east corner of Lake Champlain - almost all of it wetland, and almost all of it best seen from a boat. It sits on the Atlantic flyway, which is why the bird lists here run long and why the people who come are largely birders and paddlers rather than general visitors. There is a small visitor centre at Swanton, a handful of short trails, and a great deal of water and marsh that a car cannot reach.
