Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum

Open Air Museum · Jackson, Mississippi

Thirty-nine acres in Jackson given over to what Mississippi actually did for a living: a 1920s living-history village of relocated buildings, a working 1860s farmstead moved here from Simpson County with animals and crops, a heritage garden, the Mississippi Agricultural Hall of Fame, and the National Agricultural Aviation Museum, which covers crop dusting — an industry that began in the cotton South and is stranger and more dangerous than anyone expects. It is a state museum, it is cheap, and it is the only place in Mississippi that explains the economy underneath every other site in this folder.

1150 Lakeland Drive, Jackson, Mississippi, 39216, United States

Generally open Tuesday to Saturday, roughly 9 AM to 5 PM, closing at the start of the week and on state holidays — verify before travelling. Small admission. Special events — harvest and heritage days, craft demonstrations and the Christmas programme — are ticketed separately and are much the best days to come; check the calendar before choosing a date.
