Mississippi Museum of Art
Art Museum · Jackson, Mississippi
The largest art museum in the state, in downtown Jackson, holding several thousand works with a permanent gallery — the Mississippi Story — devoted entirely to art made in or about Mississippi, from self-taught painters through to the present. Outside is the Art Garden, an acre or so of free public green space with sculpture, water and a lawn that the museum programmes with music and films. General admission to the permanent collection has been free in recent years, with a charge for touring exhibitions.
