Mitchell Caverns

The only limestone caves in the California state park system, high in the Providence Mountains in the middle of the Mojave National Preserve. They closed in 2011 after vandalism and funding cuts and stayed shut for six years; the reopening in 2017 was a genuine rescue, and tours now run by telephone reservation only to a strictly limited number of people.
