Monte Sano State Park
Alabama State Park · Huntsville, Alabama
Two thousand acres on the mountain that rises directly behind Huntsville, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and still using its stone cabins. Nineteenth-century Huntsville came up here to escape yellow fever and summer heat, which is where the name comes from. It is the city's trail network as much as a destination — some twenty miles inside the park connect into a much larger system held by the Land Trust of North Alabama — and the bluff gives the best view over the Tennessee Valley.
5105 Nolen Avenue SE, Huntsville, Alabama, 35801, United States
Open daily year round for a small day-use fee, generally 7 AM to sunset, with the campground and cabins open to registered guests around the clock. Trails connect into the separately managed Land Trust of North Alabama network beyond the park boundary.
