Moomin World
Theme Park Built Around Tove Jansson'S Moomins, On An Island Beside Naantali Old Town · Naantali, Southwest Finland
Moomin World is a small theme park built around Tove Jansson's Moomin characters, on Kailo island in Naantali, a wooden seaside town west of Turku. You reach it on foot over a footbridge from the old town, and inside there is Moominvalley in real life: the tall blue Moominhouse, which children can climb through room by room, homes and hideouts of the other characters, a theatre with short shows, forest paths, play areas and a sandy shore. Costumed Moomintroll, Little My, Snufkin and the rest walk around, hug children and pose for photos. It opened in 1993 and is aimed at families with children roughly 2 to 10, who often love it. The honest caveat: this is not a ride park - there are essentially no thrill rides, shows are mostly in Finnish or Swedish, adults without children may find it expensive for what it is, and it is open only in summer (roughly June to August) plus short winter openings. On hot July days queues for photos and the Moominhouse can be long, so arrive at opening and combine it with Naantali's old town and harbour.

Open daily in the summer season, roughly early June to late August, usually from late morning to late afternoon or early evening, with shorter hours at the start and end of the season - check the current schedule. There are also short winter openings, typically around the Finnish winter holiday weeks; confirm the dates each year. It is closed the rest of the year. Naantali is about 15 km from Turku, reached by local bus in roughly 25-30 minutes; the park is a short walk from the Naantali bus station over the footbridge. Tickets can be bought online in advance, which is recommended for July.
