Moosehead Lake

Lake · Greenville, Maine

The largest lake in Maine and the largest lake wholly within New England - second in the region only to Champlain - and the largest mountain lake in the eastern United States. Forty miles of water in the middle of the North Woods, with Greenville at the southern end as the only real town. This is where Maine stops being coastal and becomes forest: seaplanes, moose, logging roads and Mount Kineo standing straight out of the water.

Pleasant Street, Greenville, Maine, 04441, United States

The lake is open at all times and FREE. ⚠ THE SEASON IS THE WHOLE STORY HERE: Greenville and the lake businesses run roughly late May to October, with a second winter season for snowmobiling. LATE OCTOBER TO MID-DECEMBER AND APRIL ARE MUD AND ICE SEASONS when much of the town closes. Boat launches are ice-free roughly May to November.
