Morrow Mountain State Park
Subnational Park · Albemarle, North Carolina
Five thousand eight hundred acres in the Uwharrie Mountains on the Yadkin and Pee Dee rivers, one of North Carolina's oldest state parks, with a road to the summit of Morrow Mountain and CCC-built cabins and stonework from the 1930s. The Uwharries are among the oldest mountains in North America, worn down from a volcanic island chain to wooded hills - and this park was where Native people came for rhyolite to make tools, for thousands of years.
