Morton Arboretum

Arboretum · Lisle, Illinois

Seventeen hundred acres of trees at Lisle, founded in 1922 by Joy Morton of the salt company — whose father invented Arbor Day — and planted as a living collection rather than a park. It holds something over four thousand kinds of tree and shrub from around the world across sixteen miles of trails, and it runs a rotating programme of large outdoor sculpture that has made it far better known than an arboretum would otherwise be.

4100 Illinois Route 53, Lisle, Illinois, 60532, United States

Open daily 9 AM to sunset — closing time moves through the year. Ticketed; online admission is cheaper than the gatehouse, and parking is included.
