Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium

Marine Life Center · Sarasota, Florida

An independent marine research laboratory on City Island in Sarasota with a public aquarium attached, founded in 1955 by Eugenie Clark — the ichthyologist known as the Shark Lady, who set up in a one-room shed and built one of the most respected shark research programmes in the world. The science is the institution; the aquarium is how the public gets to see it.

1600 Ken Thompson Parkway, Sarasota, Florida, 34236, United States

Open daily, generally 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The public aquarium has been in transition to a new site — confirm before travelling.
