Mount Bohemia
Ski Resort · Mohawk, Michigan
Mount Bohemia is a ski area on the Keweenaw Peninsula near Mohawk, billed as Michigan's extreme ski mountain. It is deliberately different from every other hill in the state: most of the terrain is ungroomed, steep and tree-lined, and there are no beginner runs and no snowmaking. It lives on lake-effect snow off Lake Superior, which can total over 250 inches in a good year, and it has about 900 feet of vertical, among the largest in the Midwest. Expert skiers and riders come for powder, glades and cliff drops. Tree wells and hidden obstacles are real hazards, and helmets are strongly recommended. Cat-skiing and backcountry options may be offered; confirm. The location is remote, so lodging, food and fuel need planning. The season is roughly December to March and depends on snow. Houghton is the nearest town of any size, and expect small crowds and simple facilities. Confirm conditions before driving.

Mount Bohemia is a seasonal ski area, operating roughly from December to March, with dates that move with the natural snowfall because there is no snowmaking. Lifts typically run in daytime on operating days, but the mountain may open only on certain days early and late in the season, and it may close for weather, avalanche-style hazard or lack of snow. Lodging, food and any cat-skiing or guided backcountry programmes keep their own schedules and often need advance booking. Confirm opening days, lift hours and conditions directly before driving, as roads on the Keweenaw can be slow in a storm. Outside the season there is little public activity at the mountain.
