Mount Hua (Huashan)

One Of China'S Five Great Mountains; National Scenic Area; National 5A Tourist Attraction · Huayin, Shaanxi

The Western Great Mountain of Taoism and the most vertiginous of China's Five Great Mountains: five granite peaks rising almost sheer out of the Wei River plain 120 km east of Xi'an, topped by 2,155-metre South Peak. Its fame abroad rests on the Plank Walk in the Sky - wooden boards bolted to a cliff face with a chain for a handrail - plus staircases cut straight up rock ridges, Taoist temples on every summit, and a sunrise tradition that sends thousands climbing through the night. High-speed trains reach Huashan North station from Xi'an in under an hour, and two cable cars lift day visitors to the ridges.

Huashan Scenic Area, Huayin, Huayin, Shaanxi, China
