Mount Nebo State Park

Arkansas State Park On Mount Nebo, One Of The Original Arkansas State Parks And A Civilian Conservation Corps Site. The Flat Topped Mountain Stands About 1,350 Feet Above The Arkansas River Valley. · Dardanelle, Arkansas

Mount Nebo is a flat-topped mountain standing over the Arkansas River at Dardanelle, and it was a summer resort with hotels on top long before it was a park - people came up by steamboat and wagon to escape the valley heat. It became one of Arkansas's earliest state parks in 1927 and the Civilian Conservation Corps built the roads, cabins and trails in the 1930s, several of which are still in use. The Rim Trail runs the edge of the plateau for about three miles with the valley below it the whole way, and Sunrise and Sunset Points do what they say. The road up is a series of hairpins that large vehicles are told plainly to avoid.

Highway 155 up the mountain is a steep switchback road unsuitable for trailers and large motorhomes, and it closes in ice.
