Mount Robson

Mount Robson Provincial Park / Part Of The UNESCO Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks World Heritage Site · Valemount, British Columbia

Mount Robson, about 3,954 m high, is the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. It rises more than 3,000 m above the valley floor beside Highway 16, the Yellowhead, about 85 km west of Jasper and just inside British Columbia. It sits in Mount Robson Provincial Park, created in 1913 and run by BC Parks, and the park is part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks UNESCO World Heritage Site, listed in 1984. The summit is often hidden in cloud, so a clear view from the visitor centre meadow is a matter of luck and an early start. The Berg Lake Trail, about 22 km one way, climbs past Kinney Lake and Emperor Falls to a glacier-fed lake, but it was damaged by the 2021 floods, so check current status and reservation rules before planning. Short walks to Overlander Falls and Kinney Lake suit most visitors. Climbing the peak is serious mountaineering, not a hike. Fuel and food are in Valemount or Jasper.

Mount Robson Visitor Centre, Highway 16, Valemount, British Columbia, V0E 2Z0, Canada

The park itself is open all year and the highway view is free at any hour. The visitor centre, its small shop and most campgrounds are seasonal, commonly late spring to early autumn, so confirm dates with BC Parks. Berg Lake Trail access depends on repairs after the 2021 floods, and backcountry camping needs reservations, so check current status before you plan. The park is on Pacific Time, one hour behind Jasper, which is on Mountain Time. Snow can close high trails from about October to June, services in Valemount and Jasper are the nearest, and cell coverage on trails is very limited or absent.
