Mount Seymour Provincial Park
A North Shore Mountain Park Above Vancouver With A Ski Area, The Dog Mountain And Mystery Lake Trails, Alpine Meadows, Views Over The City And Indian Arm And Winter Snowshoe Routes. One Of Vancouver'S Closest Mountain Parks, Busy On Weekends And In Ski Season · North Vancouver, British Columbia
Mount Seymour Provincial Park is a mountain park on the North Shore, reached by a winding paved road that climbs from Mount Seymour Parkway in North Vancouver, roughly 30 minutes from downtown in light traffic (confirm). The road rises through second-growth forest to a ski area at about 1,000 m and a chain of parking lots, and from there trails lead to Dog Mountain, Mystery Lake, the Pump Peaks and the long backcountry route to Elsay Lake (confirm trail names and lengths). On a clear day the view opens over Vancouver, the Fraser delta, the Strait of Georgia and the fjord of Indian Arm. Winter brings snow, a small downhill resort, a tube park and marked snowshoe routes, while summer brings hikers, trail runners and berry pickers. The park is modest beside the Rockies but very close to the city, so weekends are busy. Weather can differ sharply from the streets below, with fog, snow and cold wind at the upper lots while the valley is dry. Allow half a day for a short trail and a full day for the peaks.
Mount Seymour Provincial Park, on Mount Seymour Parkway about 30 minutes by road from downtown Vancouver on the North Shore; coordinates approximate, North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
The park is open all year and the access road is usually open at any hour, but the road is plowed and salted only when needed and may close during storms or when the upper lots are full (confirm). Day-use parking can follow a pass or timed system at busy periods, so check the park page before you drive. The ski resort keeps its own lift and tube park schedule from about December to March, often with night skiing on set days (confirm). Summer trails are generally snow-free from about June, and the ridge routes hold patches into early summer. Daylight is short in winter, so plan to be off the trail by mid afternoon.
