Ski Area On Mount Sunapee, On Land Of Mount Sunapee State Park Operated Under A State Lease By A Private Resort Company, Now Part Of A National Multi Resort Operator (Confirm); Often Called The Closest Large Ski Area In New Hampshire To Boston'S Western Suburbs (Confirm). · Newbury, New Hampshire
A mid-size ski area on the north side of Mount Sunapee in Newbury, on land of Mount Sunapee State Park that the state leases to a private operator, currently part of a national multi-resort operator (confirm). It is often described as the closest large ski area in New Hampshire to Boston's western suburbs (confirm), reached by Interstate 89 without mountain passes, and it draws families and day-trippers who want groomed cruisers, a long summit quad and a real base lodge within about two hours of the city. The summit, a little under 2,750 feet (confirm), looks north over Lake Sunapee and east to Mount Kearsarge, and on clear days to the White Mountains. Out of ski season the mountain stays useful: hiking trails climb to the summit past Lake Solitude, the long Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway ends on top, and each August the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen has held its large craft fair at the base (confirm dates). The resort pairs naturally with a lake day, since the state park beach lies just down the road.

Early and late in the season only part of the mountain may run, sometimes on weekends only. Summer and autumn operations vary from year to year: the base lodge, any scenic lift rides and events have run on set days from about late June to mid-October (confirm). The hiking trails on state park land are open daily from dawn to dusk outside ski operations. The League of New Hampshire Craftsmen's Fair runs for about nine days in early August (confirm).
