Mt Rose Ski Tahoe
Ski Area On The Mount Rose Highway, Often Described As Having The Highest Base Elevation In The Lake Tahoe Region (About 8,260 Ft) · Reno, Nevada
Mt Rose Ski Tahoe is a day ski area on the Mount Rose Highway between Reno and Lake Tahoe, and the closest ski slopes to Reno, roughly 25 to 40 minutes from town depending on where you start. It is often described as having the highest base elevation of any ski area in the Lake Tahoe region, at about 8,260 ft, which helps it hold snow early and late in the season and keeps the snow drier than on some lower slopes. The mountain has a spread of groomed beginner and intermediate runs, open bowls and tree skiing, and The Chutes, a set of steep, narrow expert lines that give it a reputation well beyond its size. Upper runs look down on Lake Tahoe on one side and the Washoe Valley and Reno on the other. It is a locals' mountain: there is no village and no hotel at the base, just day lodges, rentals, a ski school and car parks, so visitors sleep in Reno or Incline Village. Wind holds on the lifts, full car parks on powder days and winter storms on the highway are part of the deal. In summer the ski area is mostly quiet.

NO OPENING TIME HERE WAS CHECKED. The typical pattern: in the ski season lifts usually run roughly 9 am to 4 pm daily, with ticket windows, rentals and the lodge opening earlier in the morning, and the season running from roughly late November or December to around April depending on snow. There is little or no public operation in summer. The traps that ruin a day are driving up without chains during a storm, arriving on a powder day to full car parks, wind holds on the upper lifts, the Chutes closed for cover or avalanche work, and buying the ticket at the window at peak price. Confirm current times before relying on them.
