Mui Ne
A Windy Fishing Village And Beach Strip Known For Red Sand Dunes At Mui Ne Hill, The Larger White Dunes At Bau Trang, The Fairy Stream Gorge And Kitesurfing. A Stop Between Ho Chi Minh City And Nha Trang. Dunes Are Scenic At Dawn And Busy With Quad Bikes Later · Phan Thiet, Binh Thuan
Mui Ne is a windy fishing village and beach strip on the south-central coast, about 20 km north-east of Phan Thiet and 4-5 hours by road from Ho Chi Minh City. It is known for its sand: the red dunes at the fishing village, which turn orange at sunset, and the much larger white dunes at Bau Trang, where jeeps take people out for sunrise. The Fairy Stream is a short wade through red and white sand cliffs. The wind makes it one of Vietnam's best kitesurfing spots, with a season from roughly November to April. The resort strip is a long single road, so distances are bigger than they look, and you need a bike or taxi. The dunes are scenic at dawn and busy and noisy by mid-morning with quad bikes and sand sliders, and hawkers selling boards and tours can be persistent. The beach itself is narrow and often eroded. Fish sauce villages nearby add a salty smell and a taste of local life, though the smell is strong.

The dunes and beach are open outdoors with no gate, and the best views come at sunrise and late afternoon. Sunrise jeep tours leave in the dark and return by mid-morning. The Fairy Stream and the sand slide areas keep daytime hours, and local sellers set their own. Walking the beach and the fishing village at dawn is FREE; jeeps, quad bikes and parking are paid. Nothing closes on a fixed weekday, but strong wind, storms and Tet (lunar new year) can shut stalls and tours. Confirm tour times and prices locally.
