Multnomah Falls
Waterfall · Bridal Veil, Oregon
A 620-foot waterfall in two tiers off the basalt wall of the Columbia River Gorge, the tallest in Oregon and the most visited natural attraction in the state - roughly two million people a year, more than Crater Lake. The Benson Bridge of 1914 crosses between the tiers, and the 1925 stone lodge at the base is a National Historic Landmark. Its water comes from underground springs on Larch Mountain rather than from snowmelt, which is why it runs all year when other gorge falls dry to a trickle.
53000 East Historic Columbia River Highway, Bridal Veil, Oregon, 97010, United States
FREE and open daily, dawn to dusk, year round; the lodge and restaurant keep their own hours. ⚠ A TIMED-ENTRY PERMIT IS REQUIRED DURING THE PEAK SUMMER SEASON, booked online in advance - the requirement and its dates have changed more than once since introduction, so check the current rule the week you travel rather than trusting anything written earlier, including this. The car park fills before 9 AM on summer days and a seasonal shuttle runs from Portland-area transit points. The trail above the plaza closes for ice in winter and for rockfall at short notice.
