Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge
Wildlife Reserve · Seymour, Indiana
Around 7,800 acres of bottomland hardwood, restored marsh and shallow water on the Muscatatuck River flats near Seymour, established in 1966 as a resting and feeding stop for migrating waterfowl on land that had been farmed hard and drained. It is the larger of Indiana's two mainland refuges and the one with real visitor infrastructure — a driving loop, observation towers and a network of short trails. The draw is birds in migration rather than scenery.
12985 East US Highway 50, Seymour, Indiana, 47274, United States
Refuge open daily from dawn to dusk. The visitor centre keeps limited hours, generally weekdays and some weekends. Portions close seasonally to protect nesting and wintering waterfowl. Free.
