Muscle Shoals Sound Studio
National Register Of Historic Places · Sheffield, Alabama
A small cinderblock building at 3614 Jackson Highway in Sheffield, where four session musicians who had been the house band at FAME Studios set up on their own in 1969 and proceeded to play on an implausible share of the next decade's records. The Rolling Stones cut Brown Sugar and Wild Horses here. Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bob Seger, Paul Simon, Cher, the Staple Singers and Willie Nelson all came through. It was restored and reopened for tours in 2017, and it is the size of a shop.

Guided tours only, on a scheduled basis with limited daily times, and the schedule varies — check before travelling. It is also a working studio again at times, and sessions close it to visitors.
