Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

Art Museum · Boston, Massachusetts

One of the largest and best encyclopedic art museums in the Americas, founded in 1870 and in its Huntington Avenue building since 1909. Its Egyptian holdings came out of forty years of Harvard-MFA excavation at Giza and are among the finest outside Cairo; its Japanese collection is regarded as the most important outside Japan; and it holds one of the largest groups of Monets anywhere outside Paris. The Art of the Americas wing, opened in 2010, put four floors of American work in one place for the first time.
